WHO: Jim and Michael, at first. Then it's Jam time.
WHEN: backdated to yesterday, early afternoon (oops!)
WHERE: the office, then Pam's apartment in New York
WHY: it's plot. and cuz I said so.

Coffee was really the only way to wake up Jim in the morning. Sure, he'd be breathing and all, but coffee really got him going. After getting he's third cup for the day, he went back to his desk trying to decide how to approach Michael about leaving for the rest of the week. There would be no way Jim could stay there another day while Pam was all alone in her apartment after being attacked by her friend's boyfriend. No way at all. He took a long sip of his coffee, looked at Michael in his office and got up from his seat.
"Hey Michael," Jim said as he entered the small office and shut the door. "I need to ask you something." He took a seat opposite his boss and sighed softly.

Michael was wondering where his train whistle and jumping teeth had gone. They had been missing for a couple of days, and it was disturbing him. He had been planning on using them in his latest war reenactment. He took a sip of his coffee, deep in thought. He's have to have someone search for these things. Maybe someone took them? He wasn't sure. But he wanted to get to the bottom of this. Movement caught his eye, and Jim was standing in his doorway. Then, Jim shut the door and sat down.

"Jimbo! Wazzap!! How's it hanging, dawg??"
James "Jim" Halpert: hmmmprankster_jim on September 6th, 2008 12:44 am (UTC)
"Well, a couple things, actually," Jim said. He moved the chair closer to Michael's desk, like he almost always did. "I need to leave early today and take the rest of the week off." He paused before going any further. "But, first I want to talk to you about Pam's 'transfer'." His fingers moved in quotes around the word 'transfer'. "You can't be serious about transferring her, Michael. She does a lot for this branch."
thegreatscott on September 6th, 2008 12:58 am (UTC)
Michael leaned closer to Jim, his fingers tented beneath his chin. He raised his eyebrows a bit when Jim mentioned needing the rest of the week off. That wasn't entirely like him, so Michael got a little concerned. "The rest of the week? Is everything alright?"

Michael smirked when Jim mentioned "the transfer". "Oh, I am Jim...Like I said, it's in corporate's hands now. There's nothing that I can do."
James "Jim" Halpertprankster_jim on September 6th, 2008 01:38 am (UTC)
"I'm not sure yet," Jim answered. "I just have to make sure some things are still ok." He didn't want to go into full detail. That would mean he'd be there longer and not on the road to Pam's house to ensure her safety.

"Michael, I don't want to have to do this, but if you are transferring Pam, then I'm going to ask for a transfer as well. I can't live in a different city as my fiance for very much longer." Jim's voice was stern. He didn't like giving ultimatums, unless they were fun. And this was definitely not fun.
thegreatscott on September 6th, 2008 02:07 am (UTC)
Michael was a bit alarmed at Jim's tone. "You...want to transfer? Seriously? Jim. You're one of the best salesmen in the company and...I don't want to lose you. You're my best friend." Michael was getting a little choked up, "but there is nothing that I can do about it. I..."

He trailed off, sniffling. "It was an accident. A joke. I didn't think it would go this far, Jim. Please, don't leave." Michael look a deep, shuddering breath. "I'm not going to beg you, because that's stupid. But you've got to reconsider. Doesn't this company mean anything to you? Do you want to see this branch go under?"
James "Jim" Halpert: angry/coatprankster_jim on September 6th, 2008 02:29 am (UTC)
Jackpot. This is exactly what Jim wanted! "An accident? What do you mean by accident?" Of course this would have gone for the worse. It was Michael. "There has to be a way of fixing it, Michael." He felt kind of bad for making Michael emotional, but how else would he gotten the information he wanted?
thegreatscott on September 6th, 2008 02:35 am (UTC)
Michael sniffed. "I...I was playing around with my e-mail and the boss's part of the company's web page. And...I filled out an application to have Pam transferred. I was mad and I wasn't thinking. And then...I thought of how funny it would be if I actually clicked 'Send'. And Dwight distracted me! You should be blaming Dwight! I never would have clicked it if he didn't come in here!" Michael wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.

"I called Corporate to see if I could just fix it, and Ryan told me that I couldn't."
James "Jim" Halpert: angry/coatprankster_jim on September 6th, 2008 03:19 am (UTC)
"This happened with Ryan?" Jim was beginning to get angry. He took a deep breath, closing his eyes. Once they reopened, his gaze met Michael's. "Michael, there has to be a way to stop the transfer." There just had to be. If Pam wasn't at Dunder Mifflin, Scranton, anymore, why would Jim stick around? "You know what, I can't talk about this anymore. I have to go." He quickly looked at his watch, and stood up to move the chair back against the wall.
thegreatscott on September 6th, 2008 03:45 am (UTC)
"Jim." Michael said sternly, his bottom lip sticking out. Jim's back was to Michael at that point, he had gotten up to push his chair back. "I told you it was an accident. Ryan told me that I couldn't fix it. You don't want to talk about it, fine." Michael stood up. "But hear me out. I didn't mean to lose Pam like this, I was angry at her. I just...didn't want to say anything when it initially happened. I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. But it's done, and I'm sorry. I really am. And now I'll probably lose you over it, too. Over something that could have been avoided if DWIGHT HAD KEPT HIS STUPID HEAD OUT OF MY OFFICE!!!!"
James "Jim" Halpertprankster_jim on September 6th, 2008 04:01 am (UTC)
Jim faced Michael again. "Well, it's not going to be fixed with me just sitting here, or with you blaming Dwight again," he said, his hands on his hips. "I'll be back Monday, I'm not sure what time though."

Jim was going to have to fix this himself. You can call him 'Fix-it Jim'. He'd have to find out who took over Ryan's old job and talk to him or her. What a task.

Pam sat in her apartment, curled up on her couch, watching the door. She had her hammer next to her, which still had blood on the tip. It was obvious that she had not been sleeping well. Her door being the way it was had made her really uncomfortable, but she had no way of fixing it just yet. The light from the hallway streamed in through the cracks that the door made as it was leaning against the frame. She kept one light on in her apartment. it was the one in the kitchen, so she'd at least be able to see George's face if he managed to return. She was even more nervous because she had learned just that morning that George was released on bail. Which had been paid by his girlfriend, the person whom Pam had been trying to protect. And they were still living together in their apartment just down the hall, as if nothing had happened. She looked out her window momentarily. Eugene disappeared overnight. She wondered idly where he had gone.

It took him longer than he thought it would, but Jim finally made it to Pam's apartment. He had to go back to his place first to pack some clothes and other essentials, then before actually getting to Pam's apartment, he ran into a flower shop to get Pam some of her favorite flowers.

Jim walked up to her apartment as quickly as he could. He tried to stay compose when he saw her broken door. He'd have to try and fix it--there was no way he was going to let her live down the hall from a crazy guy who beats on people.

Knocking on the door, he called out to her, "Pam?"
pamela_beesly on September 6th, 2008 10:47 pm (UTC)
Pam startled, giving a short squeak when she heard the knock on the door. It had to be Jim, she figured, because George wouldn't have bothered knocking. The bruise and the cut on her forehead throbbed a little, it was the increase in adrenaline. She got up with her hammer (she needed to be sure) and walked over to the door. Grabbing the door, she grunted as she pulled it away from the frame that it was leaning against. When she saw Jim standing there, she sighed out of relief and pulled the door the rest of the way away from the frame, resting it against the wall.

"Jim!" She sighed, wrapping her arms around him. She was extremely relieved and happy to see him. It made her feel a little less jumpy, but she wanted to get as far away from the doorway as possible as soon as she could. "Come in, come in. Welcome to my humble abode."
James "Jim" Halpertprankster_jim on September 6th, 2008 11:06 pm (UTC)
"Oh my God, Pam," Jim said as he hugged her back. "What happened to your forehead?" That was it. She was definitely moving in to his home when she got back. He just hoped she would stay safe until then. Part of him wanted to rip that guy's face apart, but the other part realize that probably couldn't happen--so that smart part of him decided he would let Dwight go after George.

He set his bag down on the ground next to the door, and handed her the flowers. "I bought you these. I wanted to cheer you up." A small smile crossed his lips as he reached for her waist to bring her closer to him.
pamela_beesly on September 7th, 2008 12:01 am (UTC)
She looked up at Jim a little shyly when he mentioned her forehead, and brushed a strand of hair out of her face. "He...um...he was able to hit me before I could hit him. I stupidly thought I had dazed him with the air horn, but he...I guess, was just thinking of what to do." She was shaking a little bit, clearly exhausted still from the combination of everything that had happened and the lack of sleep since. And the lack of Jim.

She looked at the flowers that Jim was handing her, and it made her smile. She leaned against him when he reached her waist, and looked up at him. She took a deep breath, smelling the flowers, and for a second, she smiled. Suddenly, she covered her face with her free hand and was weeping against his chest.
James "Jim" Halpert: angry/coatprankster_jim on September 7th, 2008 04:35 am (UTC)
Jim held Pam closer, as if that would take away any of the pain she may have experienced in this whole ordeal. He kissed the top of her head, and held her against his chest. Jim closed his eyes. How could this happen to her? Pam is nothing but kind to everyone--except when she's pulling pranks with Jim. "Shhhh, it's alright, Pam. I'm right here," he softly whispered to her. He walked them both over to her bed, and sat them down. "I'm so sorry this happened to you."

Of all the bad things that could happen to her, he was kind of glad it was this over other things. This was fixable--other things? Not so much. Jim gently rubbed her back and swayed her a little bit, kissing the top of her head again.
pamela_beesly on September 7th, 2008 05:50 am (UTC)
Pam leaned further into Jim's chest, a little surprised at herself for weeping as she was. She hadn't allowed herself to be this upset over what had happened, but, to be honest, she was perplexed that this had even happened at all. When Jim sat them down on her bed, she leaned her head against his shoulder, her hand still covering her face, and she was still crying. She was a little ashamed for such a display, but it relieved some of the tension in her mind, at least. After a few minutes, she quieted down and reached for a tissue and was sniffling. She wiped her eyes with the back of her hands, and then looked down at them in her lap.

"I'm...I'm sorry, Jim. It shouldn't have come to this. I thought that living here would be a good experience, and now I can't imagine staying a day longer. I don't know why George went off the way that he did, but he's still living down the hall...and I guess...I guess I'm just scared that he'll want revenge. He knows I'm pressing charges." She sniffled again, and then laughed a little in spite of herself. "These really are beautiful flowers, Jim, thanks. I love them, and you're sweet for bringing them for me."

She nuzzled into his neck a little, draping her arms around his body and closing her eyes, trying to relax.
James "Jim" Halpertprankster_jim on September 8th, 2008 03:14 am (UTC)
"It's ok, Pam, really," Jim said softly. If she couldn't lean on Jim for support in her darkest hour, who would she go to? He tightened his grasp around her just a bit, letting her know that she could cry as long as she needed. He would be there for her through anything. "Have you considered trying to find another apartment? Though, it might be pointless since you'll be moving back out soon after." What a predicament.

"I'm glad you like the flowers," he whispered to her. "I also brought you two of my shirts...they smell like me." He chuckled a little.
pamela_beesly on September 8th, 2008 03:37 am (UTC)
Pam nodded. "I've thought of another apartment, but, yeah. It would be pretty pointless at this point. I don't think anyone would have a three week lease. I can stick it out, Jim. It'll be okay." She sniffled again, and cleared her throat. "And the landlord here will fix the door soon. At least he says he will. I can't give up this gorgeous view, you know..." Pam waved at her window, which showed a building coated in graffiti and one or two of Eugene's friends, but no Eugene. Eugene's friends shouted something about raccoons in response. Pam looked at Jim quizzically, then shook her head.

Pam laughed a little and drew herself in closer to Jim, smiling. "Good. I was starting to run out. I have a shirt for you that i've slept in, so it has the authentic Pam Beesly scent, and a possible drool spot on the sleeve. What do you think? Trade?" Pam kissed Jim's neck in appreciation for making her feel better. "Thanks, Jim. You're my hero," she whispered.
